What Comes With a MRCOOL DIY Mini Split?

A complete MRCOOL DIY mini-split package usually includes the outdoor condenser, the indoor air handler or handlers, and the Quick Connect line set or line sets you selected.

Not every MRCOOL listing is a complete system. A page marked “condenser only” or “air handler only” is one part of a system.

Electrical supplies, a condenser pad or bracket, line-set covers, and some drain materials are also commonly sold separately. On our site, they are usually located under "optional accessories" on our product pages.

The safest rule is simple: read the “What’s included” section on the exact product page before ordering. Product photos may show a full system even when the listing is for one component.

Start by identifying the type of listing

MRCOOL DIY equipment is sold in several ways. The title and product description tell you whether you are looking at a full package or one piece.

What normally comes with a complete MRCOOL DIY system?

A current 5th Generation complete system normally starts with these four groups of parts:

Outdoor condenser: The cabinet that contains the compressor and outdoor coil. Its refrigerant charge is designed for the approved MRCOOL DIY Quick Connect setup.
Indoor air handler: A wall-mounted unit or ceiling cassette for each zone. A wall mount normally includes its remote, filter, mounting plate, and model-specific installation parts.
Quick Connect line set: A sealed, pre-charged pair of copper refrigerant lines in the selected length. Current Chill Mini Splits line-set packages may also include communication wire, a wall sleeve, drain extension, and protective wrap.
Controls and documentation: Remote controls, batteries where listed, manuals, and built-in or included smart-control hardware for the exact model.

There is an important catch: a line set is not included with every component listing. On a configurable bundle, it may be added through a length selector. A condenser-only page does not turn into a complete system just because the outdoor unit is pre-charged.

What is usually sold separately?

These items are commonly needed but should not be assumed to be in the equipment box:

A level condenser pad or a compatible wall bracket
A dedicated breaker, correctly sized wire, disconnect box, and electrical whip
A surge protector sized and installed for the equipment
Decorative line-set cover for the outdoor wall
Extra drain tubing, fittings, supports, or insulation for the planned route
Wall anchors, fasteners, sealant, and weatherproofing materials suited to the building
Tools such as a level, torque wrench, drill, hole saw, and personal protective equipment
Permit, inspection, or licensed electrical work required by local rules

An “electrical kit” can make shopping easier, but it does not replace checking the manufacturer’s minimum circuit ampacity and maximum overcurrent protection for the exact model. Does a MRCOOL DIY system include a drain line?

Current Quick Connect packages may include a drain-line extension, and indoor-unit packages include model-specific drain parts. However, your home may need more tubing or fittings to reach a safe discharge point. Plan the entire drain route before ordering.

A wall-mounted air handler normally drains downhill by gravity. If a gravity route is not possible, it may need a separate compatible condensate pump.

MRCOOL DIY 5th Generation ceiling cassettes are different: they have a built-in condensate pump. You normally do not need to buy a second external pump for the cassette. You still need the correct drain tubing and a discharge route that follows the manual’s lift, slope, and support limits.

What the DIY design removes—and what it does not

The main DIY advantage is the pre-charged Quick Connect line set. When approved parts are installed exactly as directed, the installer does not have to cut and flare copper tubing, pull a vacuum, or add refrigerant during a standard installation.

That does not make every part of the job tool-free. You still have to mount heavy equipment, make a wall opening or prepare a ceiling cavity, route the lines without kinking them, manage condensate, weatherproof the opening, and complete the electrical connection safely.

Local rules may require permits or licensed work. A dedicated circuit and outdoor disconnect often call for an electrician. Structural changes and difficult overhead work also deserve professional help.

Five checks to make before adding accessories

Measure the line-set route. Follow the real path from each indoor unit to the condenser, including bends and vertical travel. Do not use a straight-line room measurement. See our line-set measuring guide.
Check the voltage. Confirm whether the exact system is 115V or 230V and whether your electrical panel has room for the required circuit.
Choose the condenser location. Decide whether the unit will sit on a pad or an approved bracket. Leave the clearances required by the manual.
Plan the drain. Know where water will go in cooling mode. Avoid walkways, hidden wall cavities, and places where discharge can freeze or cause damage.
Check the building surface. Match anchors, flashing, sealant, and supports to wood, masonry, siding, roof structure, or ceiling framing.

Single-zone shopping checklist

For one room, confirm that your cart has:

One complete single-zone system in the correct BTU size and voltage
One approved line set in a length that reaches without splicing
A pad or bracket for the condenser
The correct breaker, wire, disconnect, and whip
A planned drain route and any extra drain materials
Line cover, surge protection, sealant, anchors, and needed tools

Do not size a system from square footage alone. Insulation, windows, ceiling height, climate, and room use can change the load. An oversized mini split can short-cycle or control humidity poorly, while an undersized one may struggle during extreme weather.

Multi-zone shopping checklist

A multi-zone cart has more chances for a missing or mismatched part. Confirm:

One compatible outdoor condenser with enough approved ports
One compatible indoor unit for every room
An approved total indoor-capacity combination for that condenser
One correct line set for every connected indoor unit
The correct pipe size and connection for each head
Individual line lengths, total combined length, and vertical limits
A drain plan for every indoor unit
All shared electrical and mounting accessories

A four-zone condenser does not mean every four-head combination is approved. Use the current manufacturer matchup chart and full model numbers. If one room is not ready, also check the manual before planning to leave a port unused.

The easiest way to avoid a missing part

Build the system from the rooms backward. First choose the indoor-unit type and capacity for each room. Next measure every line-set route. Then choose a condenser that accepts the complete combination. Add the mounting, drain, electrical, protection, and finish materials last.
